The Solomon Islands is a archipelago of tropical Islands that runs South East of Papua New Guinea into the Solomon Sea on the Western Side of the Pacific Ocean.
A summary from Wikipeida.; "In 1568, the Spanish navigator Álvaro de Mendaña was the first European to visit the Solomon Islands, naming it Islas Salomón after the wealthy biblical King Solomon.
It is believed Papuan-speaking settlers arrived around 30,000 BC.Austronesian speakers arrived c. 4000 BC bringing elements such as the outrigger canoe. Polynesians arrived around 1200 and 800 BC and the Lapita people, arrived from the Bismarck Archipelago with their characteristic ceramics."
I have worked on and off here over the past few decades and it is an amazing place to visit. It's history has not always been an easy one but it's still there, and if you like travelling by boat, diving and snorkelling, it's well worth a visit. The people are a diverse mix of melanesian in the north and centre and polynesian in the south.
Not far from here is the markets. It's one of the few countries you may visit without traffic lights.
To avoid walking around late at night in town this cache is best checked during the day.
