Today, on January 1st, 2016, I set off from Georges Gap with Marzenbac, Réd, and Kelsoboom. We gathered up a few caches and spent the afternoon enjoying a lovely, if chilly stroll along the trail. When we reached the saddle, we paused to watch two Stealth Bombers circle us several times in their preparation for a Rose Bowl flyover (one of our primary goals of the day.) After moving a little further down the trail, we paused again and caught the final approach of the chosen bomber (I only learned today that there is always a spare) as it headed through our canyon towards the Rose Bowl. What a totally awesome sight! I won't soon forget it. I've been accused at times, by a few of my friends in today's hiking party, of occasionally lacking stealth in caching; perhaps this up close and personal experience with stealth incarnate will help improve my skills? We shall see in the new year... Later, as we wrapped up the hike with our last find, we were treated to a second flyover, this time by two hawks who circled above us for a bit. They may not have been as goosebump inspiring as the B-2's, but they were impressive in their own right. All in all, if was the perfect way to spend the first day of 2016. Here's to another year of successful caching for all!
