CARANO
Le origini del paese sono antichissime; il suo nome originario era Cadranum. I primi documenti storici sugli abitanti risalgono al 1188 e diventano frequenti a partire dal XIII secolo.
Il paese è tagliato in due parti da una valletta chiamata Val: la maggiore è detta la Villa, la seconda Radoe. La parte superiore è conosciuta come Doss. Anticamente il paese era ricoperto prevalentemente da boschi dove pascolavano cervi, daini, camosci, caprioli, lepri e forse anche orsi e lupi. Diffusa era la caccia di questi due ultimi animali che era consentita a tutti gli abitanti della Comunità di Fiemme. Il capitolo 118 del Libro delle Consuetudini sanciva una ricompensa di 48 caranti di mancia per chi avesse ucciso un lupo grande e ne avesse consegnata la testa. La caccia ai lupi veniva spesso effettuata con particolari buche profonde dette “lovaje”.
Il paese di Carano venne distrutto dal fuoco domenica 17 ottobre 1784: bruciarono 112 case, bestie, fieno e la maggior parte delle scorte.
Carano acquistò una certa fama dal XVII secolo grazie alle acque minerali. Anticamente vennero scoperte tre sorgenti d’acqua. Alla fine del settecento venne scoperta una sorgente d’acqua termale e, allo scopo di sfruttare le sue potenzialità venne costruito uno stabilimento termale che durò sino al 1797.
Un’ultima curiosità è data dall’esistenza di una fabbrica d’acqua di Melisse (cedronella) la cui produzione cessò nel 1870.

CARANO
