Geocache Description:

GEOTREK is on again!!!

It’s time to get outdoors and explore some of this fabulous city in which we live.

This year, the GEOTREK Meet'n'Greet event will be held before participants (who so choose) embark on the GEOTREK course. The event itself is an informal gathering and everyone is welcome to come along. Those who attend will have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends with a common interest, pick up the latest information on equipment, techniques and software, share stories about the latest caching adventure and swap travel bugs and geocoins. You may even pick up a hint on those pesky DNFs or get a clue or two on how to solve some of those puzzle caches that have stumped you. Details are as follows:

Date: Sunday, 13th March
Time: 9am to 10am (NB – This event will finish promptly at 10am)
Location: The Shelter Shed, Galston Park, Galston.

-------------------- oooooooooo --------------------

Following the Meet’n’Greet event, participants may like to join in the GEOTREK course that will lead them to a secret picnic destination.

Here’s how GEOTREK works:

1. Although a team can consist of one player, GEOTREK would work better if you have at least a driver and a navigator working together.

2. Attend the event at the published coordinates at Galston Park, between 9:00am and 10am. You will be given a game sheet with the coordinates for a number of waypoints to visit followed by the coordinates of the picnic spot.

3. Navigate to each waypoint in turn. At each waypoint, you will be asked to find some information to answer a question. On your game sheet, three answers are supplied and all you do is circle the correct one. (Yep, it’s that easy!)

4. The GEOTREK course alone should take you about 3 to 3½ hours to complete and you will travel approximately 70km. If you hunt for caches along the way, this will add to your time.

5. When you arrive at the picnic destination, hand in your game sheet for a chance to win a prize. To be eligible for a prize, you must have an entry with 100% correct answers so look carefully. Prizes will be drawn randomly from the eligible entries.

6. At the final destination, enjoy a “BYO Everything” picnic and share your geocaching stories with others you meet. There are no shops in the vicinity so you will need to provide all your own food and drink requirements. There is a shelter shed (if we can grab it) and two bbq hotplates available. Bringing a picnic rug and/or some folding chairs would also be a good idea.

7. You have until 2:15pm to complete the course and arrive at the picnic spot. This is when entries close. The prize draw will take place at 2:30pm.

8. Safe participation in GEOTREK is your responsibility. Please observe all road rules and be conscious of your surroundings, especially other vehicles.

Closer to the time, for those participants that want to hunt for geocaches along the way, I will post a set of coordinates that can act as an origin for a Pocket Query that will cover the GEOTREK course.

Please post a “Will Attend” log and indicate if you will be just attending the Meet'n'Greet event or participating in both the event and the GEOTREK course.

I hope you can come along and participate in all activities on the day.

Cheers,

Calypso62
