Leap Year Event Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

LasVegasBones: Thank you all for attending this special event. It was special to us not only because of Leap Year but this is also our 10,000th find! At a milestone like this one pauses to reflect on all the places you wouldn't have been to except you geocached...and all the people you wouldn't have met except you geocache. I want to thank my nephew, Seantrek, who started us on this crazy hobby when he asked if we minded stopping so he could find a cache in Colorado. As Sean was looking my husband climbed on the bridge to search also and I laid down to look under the bridge when a horseback rider came by giving us all the look reserved for crazies. We laughed so hard I was instantly hooked. I want to thank my husband, aka reluctant cacher, for enduring all those warrior wounds cartwheeling down steep slopes and crazy schemes to find a cache the GPS says is just this far. I have learned the GPS does not measure distance the way you hike. I have learned there is no need to bushwhack when you look at the satellite pic and discover a nearby road. I have loved the statistics and maps and puzzles. I think geocachers are the nicest people ever! Who would loan a stranger their boots because she wanted to go sloshing in a storm drain at night to find a d/t needed for a fizzy? Who would rent a ladder and meet you to find a cache? Color me happy!!!!Thank you Zella for our great sign!

You will be awarded a new souvenir for attending this event plus you will fill another square on your 366 day geo-calendar.

Leap Days are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the Earth's revolutions around the Sun. It takes the Earth approximately 365.242199 days (a tropical year) to circle once around the Sun. If we didn't add a day on February 29 nearly every four years, we would lose almost six hours every year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by approximately 24 days in relation to the season.
