Geocache Description:

A Mantaray, a Stingray, what is a Searay? While not a real sea creature, this name catorgorizes all our ocean rays, releatives of our sharks. A nice large cache just off the beaten path, and at the beach! A great location to place some TB to get moved along asour Geocaching vacationers will get them to there location for sure. This cache is not on a residential lot, so please do not look on nearby private properties. Have fun and enjoy. Green10

Rays are harmless creatures that inhabit the world oceans. Rays and skates are dorsoventrally flattened fish that are closely related to sharks. Here in North Carolina, one may find 27 different species of rays and skates. The largest and one of the most common is the Southern Stingray (reaching sizes of 6' long and 3' wide). Rays are harmless, stingrays only use their venomous mucus coated bard in self defense (not for hunting). Rays prfere sandy bottoms so one way to avoid getting accidently stung is to shuffle your feet (Do the stingray shuffle) to alert them yo are coming and they will swim away. Skates do not have a barb. Many fisherman intentionally cut rays tail off and throw them back in the water leaving them to die (tails do not regenerate) foolishly thinking they are harming the fish, a practice to be avoided. flmnh.fl.edu for more information on these all all our great sea creatures
