If you’ve never attended an event before you have to do the following:
1.) On the listing page you need to go to "Log Your Visit" and choose "Will Attend" and mention the number of people in your party. This way we'll know for how many cachers we must plan and the space we'll need at the venue.
2.) Once you attend the event and go home to log it, choose the "Attended" log, write something up, and that's it! For this you will get this nifty event icon in your geocaching profile.
You may want to add this event to your watchlist to check on any updates that may take place between now and 29/02/2016.
2016 is a leap year, otherwise known as an intercalary year.
The problem is that our calendar tells us that there should be 365 days in a year, but the Earth actually takes 365.25 days to orbit the Sun. If this anomaly was not corrected for, after a while we would be marking the Summer Solstice in the middle of Winter! To correct for this anomaly, we add an extra day - 29 February - every four years. Thanks to this, we get the opportunity to sneak in an extra day's caching in 2016.
When you check out your statistics page on your profile you will see the "Finds for Each Day of the Year" grid. On it is a little box for February 29. The chance to put a tick in that box only comes by every 4 years. We hope this day you'll be able to tick it off by attending our event.
And if you log a attend or found it on this day you will get a nice Leap Day Souvenir icon on your profile as well.
An event cache is just a way to get together with other cachers and share some adventures, talk about GPSr's, share some tricks and tips, swap some stories, trade/swap/discover TBs, Geocoins and have some fun!!
The event will take place on 29/02/2016 at Detroit Spur at Riverside Mall, Nelspruit from 18h00 to 20h00. Good food and drinks are available but it will be for your own account. Although it is a school night, we hope that you can make it.
Hope to see you there!!!
All cachers welcome!
