Nel tratto di costa tra Calambrone, frazione di Pisa, e il porto di Livorno, si situa la foce del canale Scolmatore dell'Arno, costruito a partire dal 1954 per evitare l'esondazione dell'Arno nelle zone a valle di Pontedera. Poco di prima di sfociare in mare, lo Scolmatore riceve da destra le acque di due altri importanti canali, quello dei Navicelli, costruito nel 1563-1575 per collegare Pisa al porto di Livorno, e l'Emissario del Bientina,che ebbe un ruolo fondamentale nel prosciugamento di quel lago. La cache è nascosta sulla striscia di terra che separa questi ultimi due canali, poco oltre la foce dell'Emissario. In ogni caso vi consiglio di proseguire fino alla foce del canale dei Navicelli per apprezzare il finis terrae, da qui necessiterete un mezzo acquatico se vorrete proseguire. Per raggiungere la cache dovrete lasciare la SS1 Aurelia all'altezza del waypoint indicato, da qui sono 6-7 km di strada sterrata lungo il canale dei Navicelli, costeggiando in parte la base statunitense di Camp Darby. La strada è ideale da percorrere in mountain bike, anche se non dovrebbero esserci divieti per i mezzi a motore. In alternativa, potete raggiungere la cache dall'acqua. La zona della cache è frequentata da pescatori, per cui fate attenzione.
La cache è una micro contenente solo il logbook. Si consiglia di usare guanti da lavoro durante della ricerca perché potrebbero esserci vetri rotti. Buona ricerca!
Along the stretch of coast between Calambrone, a neighborhood of Pisa, and the port of Livorno, it is located the mouth of the canal Scolmatore Arno, built since 1954 to prevent the flooding of the Arno river in the areas downstream of Pontedera. Shortly before flowing into the sea, the Scolmatore receives from the right the waters of two other major canals, the Navicelli one, built in 1563-1575 to link Pisa to Livorno, and the Emissary of Bientina, who played a key role in the drying up of the lake. The cache is hidden on the strip of land separating the latter two channels, just after the mouth of the Emissary. In any case, I recommend you go to the mouth of the channel Navicelli to appreciate the finis terrae, hence you'll need aquatic transportation if you want to proceed further. To reach the cache you will have to leave the SS1 Aurelia at the waypoint indicated; from there, there are 6-7 km of gravel road along the canal Navicelli, along part of the US base of Camp Darby. The road is ideal to go mountain biking, although there should be no prohibitions for motorized vehicles. Alternatively, you can reach the cache from the water. The cache area is frequented by fishermen, so be careful.
