Welcome to my first Geocache! The cache is a small clip loc container, containing a log book, pencil, room for some swappables and a special surprise for the first to find!
The cache has been placed in this location as a tribute to the now lost Douglas Motorcycles, once one of Britain's most prolific motorcycle manufacturers. The company used to produce motorcycles at what is now an industrial estate nearby, and what was then one of the largest motorcycle factories in Europe. The company produced motorcycles between 1907 and 1957, and also produced a number of cars in this period. Douglases were also successful in the competitive arena, and Douglas Motorcycles were victorious in no less than 4 Isle of Man TT's. The factory itself can still be seen, as the buildings are still in use to this day, although as I've said they are now part of an industrial estate. There are a number of giveaways as to the site's former purpose however, with a new housing estate nearby being named "Dragonfly Close" in honor of Douglas' last motorcycle, the Dragonfly, and of course the road on which this cache has been placed, Douglas Road.
