The rail line between Canberra & Cooma was closed to passenger trains in September 1988 after the bridge over Numeralla Creek was deemed unsafe, freight services along this line ceased in May 1989.
The 49km section between Queanbeyan and Michelago was reopened in April 1993 for heritage tourist operation however this was suspended in the beginning of 2007 due to storm damage.
The rail had stops in Royalla, Williamsdale, Michelago, Colinton, Bredbo, Billilingra, Chakola, Bunyan and Cooma, with bridges crossing Ingalara Creek, Bredbo & Numeralla Rivers and a tunnel under the hill at Colinton.
As you drive along the road to this cache make sure you take the time to look at the scenery, as you get close to the cache you will be treated to the view of a small series of stunning old wooden railway bridges.
Umarella Flat / Levy Bridge is deemed unsafe and this is one of the main reasons this rail line is no longer usable.
There is parking near the railway line and the cache is a small walk along the track on the closest bridge. Please note there is no need to climb fences or cross bridges to get to this cache.
