It all started on a snowy December afternoon. JEDEYE and I had spent part of the morning snow scooping away the previous night’s snow and were looking for something to watch on TV to pass the afternoon. We came across something called “Trollhunter”. It was made in Norway and the English was dubbed in. It wasn’t going to win any Academy Award but it was a pretty good time killer.
The story was about this guy that worked for T.S.S. (Troll Security Service), a very secret government agency. He would travel around the country in his vehicle looking for out of control trolls. He was armed with a high powered light gun and his vehicle had another high powered light mounted on top.
I wasn’t aware but evidently if you blast a troll with very bright light they turn to stone! Once they were turned to stone he would blow them up and turn them into a pile of rocks. This was a very secret agency and that was the way they kept the secret of the trolls from the general population. If one of these trolls killed any people the agency had a supply of large bears and they would bring in a dead one and blame the human carnage on it.
This got us thinking. There appear to be several troll remnants in our area so grab your GPS and your bright flashlight – just for safety and head out.
I have consulted the Troll DNA Database and, to the best of my knowledge, this was cantankerous old harpy of a troll named Zenma.
Head up old Rt 8 towards Catherine Creek Trailhead. Just before you get up on top there is a house on the right and on the left there is a pull off with a black mailbox on a post. There is a gate to keep you from driving up the hill and a trail sign that says 005. Head up the hill to the cache site. It is pretty good leg stretcher getting up there. When you see some power poles to the left you can follow a game trail in that direction. Cache is a PVC pipe about 10 ins long with goodies and unactivated geocoin for FTF. I think the Trollhunter was short of explosives because this old troll is in some pretty good sized chunks. There is poison oak along the trail in spots but not by cache.
