The North Jetty, one of the two jetties which guard the entrance to Galveston Bay and the ship channel, is 1.7 miles from the Ferry Landing. Turn on 17th Street, the road dead-ends at the North Jetty.
The jetty was built of huge granite blocks in the 1890's by the Army Corp of Engineers.
The North Jetty extends five miles into the Gulf and is a popular location for fishing and crabbing. For a remarkable experience the visitor may walk to the boat cut, about two miles out on the jetty.
