About the Bird On! Series:
My primary hobby is birding, so I tend to go around looking for places with tons of birds to find. These caches are intended to celebrate those places, and hopefully get a few more birder / geocachers to either revisit familiar haunts or find new spots to check out.
About the Location:
The pond system at Berdoll Farms is actually part of the Dry Creek floodplain, and intended as stormwater drainage for the Berdoll Farms neighborhoods. The reeds here host waterbirds such as American Coot and the occasional Common Gallinule or American Bittern; a more unusual past denizen of this pond system was a sizable American Alligator that made the news in 2015, which split its time between these ponds and another pond further south before its removal and relocation by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Herons, egrets, and winter ducks are among the birds you may encounter here.
An ongoing tally of birds present is located
here when available.
About the Cache:
The cache is a large repurposed pill bottle, large enough for trackables and other small items. Bring your own pen, please! Make sure to seal the cache carefully to avoid moisture seepage. Please be stealthy with finding and hiding as this trail is frequented by jogging and biking muggles. Night caching here is not recommended due to its location in a residential greenbelt.
FTF Prize:
A Maryland state themed quarter, a Denali quarter, and your name on a brand-new log! -- The winner is Godot! (But the prize got muggled! Jeepers!)
