I love our country. May not so much the country it is now, but definitely the country it was and could be again. Yes, I tear up when I hear the National Anthem, and I always try to thank our service men and women - whether military or police, fire, ambulance, etc. Please be sure to thank them when you see them - they put their life on the line everyday so we can do silly things like Geocache (and for that I'm extremely grateful)!
This hide was inspired by my beautiful wife-unit, who spotted this location (probably while out shopping) one day last week. I checked it out, and it's a great spot!
Made in the U.S.A.!?
Since February of 2014, all United States Flags purchased by the Department of Defense are 100% American-made. That means they are wholly sourced from the U.S. - not having any elements from oversas. While the Department of Defense's major flag vendors have always been American companies, the flag material - such as ink and fabric - could have come from foreign markets prior to the February 2014 change.
"Our men (and) women in uniform should serve under American-made flags," Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., said on his Facebook page last week. He proposed the legislation requiring the flags to be 100% American-made.
In that post, he also gave a nod to flag company North Bay Industries in Rohnert Park, Calif., which produces flags that are wholly American-made. "Our tax dollars should be spent on American-made flags like those at NBI," he said.
The Department of Defense purchases American flags for purposes such as flying them over the Pentagon, military bases and ships, as well as to use as burial flags for military personnel killed in action.
A similar bill requiring all government-purchased flags be made in the U.S. has repeatedly failed, noting that it's often less expensive to buy American flags made in China.
The new military requirements extends the existing Berry Amendment to flags, reported CBS News. That amendment, which passed in 1941, bans the Department of Defense from buying food, clothing, military uniforms, fabrics, stainless steel and hand or measuring tools that are not grown or produced in the U.S., except in rare special circumstances.
About this Cache:
GZ is located in front of a business office. Stealth may be required during normal business hours. Hide is pretty much within arm's reach from the parking lot (no need to mull about in the flowers). Precinct Line is pretty busy, but I don't think anyone will be too concerned with your activities.
Container is pretty small, enough for log and a little swag. BYOP.<\p> Congratulations to jtheman9 (again) on FTF!
