Geocache Description:

The ghost of Ruth Osborne can be seen in Astrope Lane, according to Betty Puttick's 'Ghosts Of Hertfordshire'. In 1751 Ruth and her husband John were ducked in a pond by enraged locals who thought them witches. The couple died of their injuries. Thomas Colley was the only person convicted of the crime and was hanged at nearby Gubblecote Cross. The pond was locally known as Wilstone Wear but its location remains a mystery. Some say it lay in a field off this lane, but was filled in.

The cache is a screw-top micro wrapped in camo tape.

Please watch for traffic.

If you would like to expand the Spooky Series, please do. I would only ask that you let cachers Brian Ze Owl know so that they can keep track of numbers and add your cache to the list. They would like the series to contain caches with a spooky story based on local folklore, legend or even newspaper reports.
