Narrano le cronache del 1816 che Paolo Ghedi fu Giuseppe, di anni 29, nativo di Crema, spinalino (cioè estraeva la fibra tessile dall'involucro legnoso dello stelo del lino) e sarto, cattolico, nulla possidente e senza fisso domicilio, fu arrestato il 15 giugno per aver commesso i seguenti misfatti:
- il dì 11 maggio 1816 con armi da fuoco e taglio minacciato di morte nella sua casa il mugnaio Francesco Ricaboni e il suo garzone Giovanni Battista Semenza, derubando quello di 100 zecchini e questi di 17 lire di Milano.
- il dì 11 giugno 1816 aver aggredito, sulla strada di Capralba, Benedetto Nava rubandogli 6 Luigi d'oro, una pistola e un coltello.
Per questi delitti si condanna Paolo Ghedi alla pena di morte colla forca sulla strada di Capralba sul principio del Bosco Canito. Sentenza eseguita il 28 giugno 1816.
Ciò che forse rende più commiserevole questa vicenda -diciamocelo: il ragazzo non era propriamente un santo!- è che i gendarmi che eseguirono la sentenza erano austriaci e che il Ghedi fu costretto a subire l'impiccagione nello stesso posto in cui commise l'ultimo suo delitto.
La sua tomba (büsa), per una disposizione dura e crudele della legge penale di allora, è perduta sul ciglio della riva destra della roggia Alchina ed è meta ancora oggi di visitatori che a volte lasciano un cero o un mazzo di fiori.
E siccome il destino a volte è più crudele della vita e della legge, nel 2008 ha fatto sì che proprio in quel punto -dove la strada che porta da Capralba a Campagnola Cremasca incontra la "strada bassa" che collega Casaletto Vaprio a Campisico e poi Sergnano- perdesse la vita in un incidente stradale, a causa della forte pioggia, l'amico Alessio Gillardi. Aveva 32 anni e tornava a casa dal lavoro.
Vicino alla Büsa da Ghèt ora c'è un motivo in più per portare un cero o dei fiori.

The chronicles of 1816 report that Paolo Ghedi son of Giuseppe, aged 29, native of Crema, spinalino (a man who extracts textile fiber from the linen woody stem) and tailor, Catholic, no landowner and no fixed address, was arrested on June 15 for he was found guilty of the following crimes:
- The day May 11, 1816 with firearms and cutting arms, he threatened to death the miller Francesco Ricaboni and his apprentice Giovanni Battista Semenza, robbing to them 100 gold coins and 17 lire di Milano.
- The day June 11, 1816 he assaulted, on Capralba road, Benedetto Nava stealing him 6 golden Louis, a gun and a knife.
For these crimes Paul Ghedi was condemned to death by hanging on Capralba road near the Bosco Canito. The sentence was executed June 28, 1816.
What perhaps makes this story most pitiable -let me say: that guy was not just a saint!- is that the gendarmes who carried out the sentence were Austrians and that Ghedi was forced to be hanged in the same place where he committed his last crime.
By a hard and cruel disposition of the criminal law of that period, his tomb (büsa) is lost by the right bank of the Alchina canal and is still a destination for visitors who sometimes leave a candle or a bunch of flowers.
As fate is sometimes much more cruel than life and laws, in 2008, just at that place -where the road leading from Capralba to Campagnola Cremasca crosses the "low road" linking Casaletto Vaprio to Campisico and then Sergnano- our friend Alessio Gillardi lost his life in a car accident, due to heavy rain. He was 32 and he was coming back home from work.
Close to Büsa da Ghèt now there's one more reason to bring a candle or some flowers.
