This family operated business began operating in the mid 1850's and was in business until the 21st century. This creamery was well known for its butter making operations, under the name of Medway Creamery and later its egg packing operations, with much of the cream for butter making and most of its eggs coming from local operations throughout southwestern Ontario.
Later in the late 1900's with margarine making inroads into the province the operation began carrying margarine but never participated in the manufacture of that product, after all, this was a creamery operation with a strong, rich history. This business was never a large operation, but its name was well known and respected throughout the area. Its few employees being dedicated and knowledgeable of the business in which they worked, usually having come here from other like operations and holding their own certifications as well as having spent many years in the industry.
As time went on, costs increased, facility and plant equipment required modifications and government regulations changed, which also required more operational upgrades; and the economy began a general decline, affecting businesses large and small throughout not just Ontario and Canada, but all across North America.
Despite personal service and its own fleet of vehicles delivering supplies to many restaurants, bakeries and stores in the surrounding area and a major manufacturer of cookies in the area the current owner/operators at the time had no choice but to close down the remaining egg packing operation, having closed the butter manufacturing and distribution side of the operation in previous years. A family owned and operated business, after many years and several generations closed its doors. The buildings remain in place on the the property, still owned by the descendants of the original operators of Medway Creamery.
