This cache has been archived.

heartradio: I had the misfortune to visit Cullompton today, so I decided to check on this one. Unfortunately it's gone, as far as I can see, and GZ is now a bit grotty. Time to go

Geocache Description:

CULLOMPTON HERITAGE TRAIL

A simple multi around the Cullompton Heritage Trail.

Cullompton is a small town with a surprisingly big heritage. The town's history dates well back into Roman times, was mentioned in the will of King Alfred the Great and boomed as a wool town through the middle ages and into the 19th century. It has been a market town since the 13th century. There are two significant Grade 1 listed buildings, St. Andrew's Church and The Walronds, and over 90 Grade 2 listed buildings.

At each stage of the cache you will find a noticeboard detailing the location and its history and you will gather information from these noticeboards which will give you the final coordinates. Unfortunately one noticeboard is inside a well known superstore so there is no stage there and one of them (at Stage 3) hasn't been put up yet, so until it is there is a different piece of information to find.

Stage 1 - St Andrews Church (headline coordinates) - When was building work started? Answer = ***A

Now go up Church Street, turn left and then cross the road by the library to find the next stage.

Stage 2 - Lower Bull Ring - When was the great fire? Answer = *B**

Continue towards the town centre and then turn left at a metal gate. Go through the gate, down a gravel path into some public gardens just before a large yellow building (The Walronds). Please note the gate into the gardens will be locked at night.

Stage 3 - The Walronds and Fore Street - When did Andrew John Piper die? Answer = **CD.  THIS IS NOT ON A NOTICEBOARD!

Go back to Fore Street and turn left. Keep going until you get to the next stage.

Stage 4 - Higher Bull Ring - When was the last recorded bull baiting? Answer = ***E

Now keep going to the end of the Bull Ring and cross the road to the Almshouses.

Stage 5 - Trott's Almshouses - How many poor men were the Almshouses built for? Answer = F

Now cross the road so you are on the left hand side of the Bullring if you are looking into the main part of the town. When you reach a small road on the left, turn down it and keep going straight on until you reach the leat. Turn left into the car park where the next board is.

Stage 6 - The Leat - How many acres of land were purchased by the townspeople? Answer = GH

Checksum: A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H = 29

Now to the final cache, which is at N50o5C.DA(D+C) W003o2G.(B-E)FH

Magnetic nano cache for FTF. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BISON TUBE LOG HOLDER!

No spoilers please!
