The paper punch in the cache is unique to this cache and is used to identify your visit here in your CLSB Geotrail logbook. Use the punch to mark the corresponding number in your logbook (the number is in the cache title). Please do not remove the paper punch from the cache.
This cache replaces the first CLSB-W10 placed at the Trumansburg Fair Grounds on 10-18-2012.
The new version is in the Henry A. Smith Woods, a preserved old-growth forest, which was facing difficulty because of an overly large local deer population eating all the saplings and wildflowers on the forest floor. In early 2018 a fence was built around the woods, to keep the deer, but not people, out. Gates have been installed for access (see Waypoint) and since GZ was not impacted by the construction (although the cache seems to have disappeared), yet another cache has been placed in the same spot, with a new punch and log book. We want to keep the CLSB caches up and running.
Visitors are asked to stay on the trails (so as not to compact the forest ground); we recommend taking a stroll on the easy meandering paths which will get you within 40 feet of the cache.
Parking is permitted on the road near the gate, except during the FingerLakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance in mid-July, and the Trumansburg Fair in late August.
