2016 Leap Year Cache #4 - Little Oak Plantation
While the calendar assumes the Earth revolves around the sun every 365 days, it actually takes the Earth a bit longer - 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds. If the calendar were not adjusted for the extra six hours by adding an extra day approximately every four years, the calendar would slowly shift and the seasons would no longer be aligned with the traditional months.
Without Leap Days, the calendar would be off by 24 days within 100 years. For geocachers however, we just get an extra days caching!
Fun leap day fact - People born on February 29 are called “leaplings” or “leapers”. The chance of being born on a leap day is one in 1,461. There are five million leaplings around the world.
The cache container you are looking for is a small clip-top box large enough for a couple of small trackable’s or swappable’s.
Due to the location of the hide, please be aware of passing motorists and dog walkers on the nearby path for the potential of being muggled when searching for the caches and signing the logs.
We hope you enjoy searching for this cache and request that the cache is left as found complete with natural camouflage so that it does not get spotted by non-cachers.
There is space for a car to park close to the cache that can also be used to access the nearby Leaping Lizard cache, alternatively seek parking safely on nearby Forest Road. We are aware of the littering around the layby which varies in severity at different times but this should not affect the area immediately around the hide.
