Geocache Description:

Come join the Geocachers of the Maryland Society of Surveyors for a fun and rewarding Event. A time for Geocachers and Land Surveyors to share our common treasure hunting passions as well as learn a bit about Benchmarking and see some 1 cm accuracy GPS equipment.

A Meet and Greet with Land Surveyors, Geocachers including Bench Mark recovery (Benchmarking) information, 'Geo-Olympics' event and even more.

Saturday, April 2, 2016

From 1:30 p.m. till 3:00 p.m.

The Maryland Society of Surveyors (MSS) has formed a Geocache Committee to find ways to promote Land Surveying to the Geocaching community as well as introduce Geocaching to our “muggle” Surveyors. During this event we will be displaying some of highly accurate GPS equipment and performing an "OPUS" observation on a "Bench Mark" located in the park. What is "OPUS?" You will have to come to the event and find out.

Be sure to stop by the registration table to “log” in and get the information you will need for the activities we are planning.

We have had Geocaching Olympics at some of our gatherings and they were always a hit, so we will be having an "Closest to Pin" event to work with your hand-held GPS units.

  • What is "Closest to Pin?" This is pretty much what you do while looking for a cache. After everyone places a flag at a given coordinate, we will bring out our "super-fancy," "high-precision" GPS equipment to find where the spot really is located.
  • Prizes will be awarded and guaranteed fun for all.
  • Cameras and video recorders are encouraged to remember this "Once In A Lifetime" event.
