This is the fifth of a weekly series dedicated to Bagpuss. Episode five was first broadcast at 1:45 pm on Tuesday 12th March 1974.
Synopsis:
Emily brings back a small tartan cloth object in the shape of an animal. Gabriel rules out the possibility of it being a frog. With the help of a Tam o' shanter thinking cap, Bagpuss considers that it might be a small soft Hamish, a timid creature from the Scottish Highlands that makes a sound like bagpipes played badly. Bagpuss relates the tale of how they were discovered by Tavish McTavish, who thought the sound they made was his long lost brother. Yaffle states that there is no such thing, and identifies it as a porcupine without spikes. It is in fact a porcupin pine cushion - no, a porcupine pin cushion - so the mice add pins to give it back its shape and display it in the shop window.
