Geocache Description:

This is an urban cache situated conveniently close to an excellent supermarket, a fantastic cafe and an information centre that will help you discover anything else about the region you may want to know. This is a BYOP cache & has no room for swaps. Congratulations on FTF to Team Bombas. Stealth is required!

Atherton, formerly known as Prior’s Pocket, officially became a town in 1886. It was originally a timber camp situated at a natural spring on the Mulligan Highway between Herberton and Port Douglas. After the railway arrived in 1903 it pulled ahead of Mareeba as the Tablelands’ largest town, cementing its role as ‘Capital’ of the Tableland after WW2. It’s renowned for it’s natural beauty and is a gateway to the rest of the Tablelands. More on it’s attractions and heritage can be found in the adjacent Information Centre.
