May 4 is considered a holiday by some Star Wars fans and geocachers to celebrate the franchise's film series, books and culture. The date was chosen for the easy pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" - "May the Fourth be with you". Even though the holiday was not actually created or declared by Lucasfilm, many fans across the world choose to celebrate the holiday.
So, come on down to Buffalo Wild Wings on Route 110 in Farmingdale to celebrate Star Wars Day geocaching-style! We have reserved the party room in the back and will be hanging out from 5:00PM until whenever!
For the kids (and maybe the older kids), come get your picture with a lightsaber, the weapon of a Jedi, an elegant weapon of a more civilized age.
For the adults (and maybe the kids), we will have a limited supply of TWO different geocoins (both trackable at www.geocaching.com) available for purchase at the event. As there will be a limited supply, especially of the 2nd coin, please mention in your "will attend" log if you are interested so I can do my best to accommodate everyone.
The first coin is an homage to R2-D2. His color scheme is the basis for the New York version of this coin.
The second coin is of the lesser-known Jedi, Signal the Frog. This is the Yorkshire version of this coin, but I was able to employ some Jedi mind tricks to get it renamed to the New Yorkshire coin and procure a few of these coins for our event as well. This is a 2-sided coin with a different version on Signal on each side
We will also be having some Star Wars-related raffles during the event. You do not need to be present to win, you just need to sign the log. More details will follow in the weeks to come. Hope to see you there!
