Geocache Description:

Not accessible by car but perfect for a cycle or stroll along the canal between Taunton and Bridgewater, filling a gap between several great caches along the route. Large enough for small trackables. Hidden in undergrowth at the top of a 3' high bank. Spoiler photo included to help pinpoint which bit of undergrowth if summer foliage proves a nuisance.DO WATCH YOUR EYES AS YOU BEND TOWARDS THE SPIKY HEDGEROW.

This cache was placed on Leap Day 2016, when geohound Merlin and I cycled along the canal on a beautiful morning to mark the once-in-four-years day with some geocaching. (Well, I cycled - Merlin loped along beside me. He's clever, but cycling is beyond him).

The title seemed the right one for soooo many reasons, namely

  • It as placed on Leap Day
  • I have drifted away from geocaching and miss it. I moved away from home, lived abroad, had some health issues, acquired two grandchildren several countries apart while a third child took us off to far distant parts of the globe...life took a turn for the unsettled but I have faith that it's settling down now (famous last words) Placing a cache is an act of faith that I'll be here to maintain it!
  • I perused the adjacent foliage long and hard. Trimmed back now at the end of winter, it's at the base of a spiky hedge (hawthorn?) I have faith that it won't grow so dense as to make the cache inaccessible.
  • It's in a round ('body butter') container from a well known High Street smellies provider. They discontinued this, my favourite of their products and I stockpile it whenever I can find it. I have faith that one day they will bring it back.
  • 'O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?' (Percy Byshe Shelley). Having just moved to the area in autumn, I have faith that this horrible wet and windy winter WILL end soon - and every West Country winter isn't like this... promise me it isn't... I'm developing gills.

This stretch of the canal is particularly interesting because of the number of WW2 pill boxes along the route and one is quite near this cache. As you pass alongside 'Engine House' note the model railway track just at the base of the hedge, inside the garden. You may be lucky enough to see a train chugging along.
