Roste zde borovice halepská (pinus halepensis), jehličnaný strom se silným, větrem pokrouceným kmenem a širokou nepravidelnou korunou.
Dobře snáší sucho a ve vhodném podnebí roste ve všech půdách. Borovice roste jednotlivě nebo společně ve skupinách.
Smůla z borovice halepské se používá k výrobě řeckého vína "retsina".

Retsina (Ρετσίνα) je typické řecké, nejčastěji bílé víno s přídavkem borovicové pryskyřice, která mu dává specifickou chuť. Způsob výroby tohoto vína měl být objeven náhodou již ve starověku - pryskyřice používaná k utěsnění vinných nádob pronikla do vína a ovlivnila je. Víno je vyráběno z odrůdy Savatiano a obsahuje pryskyřici právě z borovice halepské, vyznačuje se světle žlutou barvou a lehce dřevitým aroma.

Allepo pine (pinus halapensis) puts up well with dry climate and grows in all soils. The trees grow either singly or in groups.
The sap of Allepo trees is used as an ingredient for making "Retsina", a typical Greek wine.

Retsina (Ρετσίνα) is usually white wine with addition of pine sap which gives the wine its specific flavour.
The making method was, presumably, found out in ancient history. Accidentally, the sap used to seal barrels of wine got into the content of a barrel and affected it.
The wine is made from Savatiano grapes and contains sap of Allepo pines. It has light yellow colour and 'wooden' flavour.
