Geocache Description:

A Park N Grab at a historic water tower that looks like Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Betty Jo from Petticoat Junction could pop over the side at any time! The cypress water tower was actually in use from 1885 to 2000. The cache is near enough to hear the whistle blow as the train pulls in. Hidden with permission. BYOP and no room for any swag.

The cache is near the site of the Kinmundy cypress water tower which looks a lot like the tower used in the TV Series Petticoat Junction which ran from 1963 to 1970. This water tower did not have young women swimming in it but rather it was used from 1885 to 1953 to provide water for steam engines running on the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1960 the city of Kinmundy purchased the tower, pump station and lake and used it to provide water for the city until 2000. At that time a new lake was constructed and the nearby water tower was installed. The cypress water tower was deemed a National Historic Place to commemorate the fact that it is the only remaining water tower in the United States that was in continuous service for over 100 years and is still intact. The cache is NOT on the water tower but just far enough away that you can get a good look at the large structure.
The TV Series was one of the four 1960's "rural comedies" that was cancelled by CBS in early 1970 even though it's ratings was on the upswing. If you are old enough you can probably hear the Hooterville Cannonball coming around the bend as it pulls up to the stop at the Shady rest Hotel. You could be remembering any one of four or five different opening theme songs - but they all started with the whistle of the Hooterville Cannonball - https://goo.gl/mOvCDa.
