Geocache Description:

This is a hide in the Shirley Marina County Park. Shirley Marina is a beautiful and relatively under-visited park with benches to enjoy the view of the bay, the bridge, and Fire Island. There is also a boat launch and parking for trailers. The park closes at dusk and the gates are normally closed around that time. Please respect the posted hours.

I have been thinking about starting a series for awhile, and when I saw that a cache that used to be located nearby had the same name as one of my geocaches-to-be in that series, I figured this would be the perfect place to hide it. The cache itself is made from materials I recycled.

As far as the hide goes: You are looking for a small (but not nano) size container. It is hidden near the boat ramp and bulkhead, but it is well camoflauged and protected from the elements. There are a couple of parts to this geocache that protect it and keep it hidden from muggles. Please do not tug or pull on anything with force. Be gentle and you will be able to access what you seek.

In addition, please be sure to put everything back the way you found it. As hidden at the time of this writing, you are not able to discern anything out of the ordinary about the cache location without using your hands- please be sure that the cache is re-hidden in similar manner so that others can enjoy this for years to come.

Finally, this area can either be completely void of people or quite busy depending on the season. Please use discretion and do not attempt a search when the area is too crowded. There are multiple parts to this cache that take time to retrieve and replace, and doing so with stealth could be difficult. Use your best judgement.

Terrain rating is a 1 or 1.5, as there may be a curb to step up and some soil. You do not need to get wet in any way, or stand on/in the boat launch area. Standing on normal ground in front of the bench nearby will get you where you need to be.

I am rating it a 3.5 for difficulty as this might be a little tricky :)

If anyone has struggles, please feel free to contact me via text at 607-242-2126. I live very close by and will be able to check on this cache regularly. It should always be in order.

Stay tuned for more caches in the series, and thanks for searching! I hope you enjoy visiting this County Park and finding this geocache.
