The Pensacola Ice Pilots flew into town from Nashville, where they were known as the Knights, in 1995. They played in “The Hangar” for the ECHL until 2008 when the team owner, Mario Forgione, decided to end the run after finishing the past three seasons in last place.

Pensacola Pelicans/Pensacola Snappers
Most people know our most recent past baseball team were the Pelicans. How many of you know, way back in 1913, we had a team called the Snappers? Pensacola and baseball have a long history together starting back in 1893. We’ve had Grays and Blues, Dudes, Snappers, Giants, Pilots, Flyers, Pilots again, Fliers this time, Dons, Angels, Senators, Pelicans all the way to the current Blue Wahoos.
B = Add how many times the Pelicans won the Southeastern League championship and the number of double hits Snappers outfielder, Charles Miller, had in 1913.
Pensacola Barracudas
I remember when the arena football team, the Barracudas, first formed. I am a football fan but I wasn’t sure what I thought about arena football. The idea of it seemed claustrophobic to me and I ended up never going to a game.
C= How many seasons did the Barracudas play?
Pensacola Power
When the Pensacola Power, our first women’s football team, held tryouts, over 120 women came out to try and make the team. Although never winning a national title, the team lived up to their name through the 2008 season when they made the switch from the National Women’s Football Association to the Women’s Football Alliance and changed their name to the Gulf Coast Riptide.
D = How many consecutive Southeastern Division Championships did the Power win minus 5?
Pensacola Tornados
I’ve never been much of a basketball fan and the 1 time I went to a game was when my high school band played the national anthem at the start. Yes, I was in the band (color guard) and I swear I developed PTSD from it. Yellow tights….that’s all I’m going to say.
E = What is the third digit in the year the team moved to Birmingham minus 4?
Present
Pensacola Ice Flyers
The "Ice Flyers" name has a double meaning – it is both a tribute to Pensacola's heritage in Naval aviation and an homage to original owner Tim Kerr, who previously played eleven seasons with the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.
F = How many games were lost in the post season of the first year the Ice Flyers won the President’s Cup?
Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Wahoos went through many incarnations before coming to Pensacola. They were the Charleston, Savannah, Lynchburg, Evansville and Columbus White Sox. (Yes, all 5 teams were the White Sox) then the Columbus Astros, Columbus Mudcats and Carolina Mudcats.
G = What is the add sum of the Blue Wahoos’ inaugural year?
Pensacola Aviators
Did you know there was a rugby team in town? I didn’t, at least not until I saw a group of them at a Blue Wahoos game. I don’t know much about this group of gents so if you have any information, please share!
H = Divide the time practice starts by 3.
Gulf Coast Riptide
Formerly known as the Pensacola Power, the women’s contact football team changed their name to the Gulf Coast Riptide when they changed leagues. To be honest, I’m not really sure if this team is still around. I can’t seem to find information about them past 2011. If anyone knows anything, once again, please share! I’d like to go to a game!
I = What is the first digit in the year the Rip Tide joined the Women’s Spring Football League?
