Geocache Description:

This is part of a Series of 6 geocaches set out in a stunning part of the Somerset countryside that is the Staple Fitzpaine Herepath Trail. This is an area we frequently visit with the dogs and have a lovely walks, however it is also a great place for walking for those that do not have dogs. This cache is a bit more sneaky than the rest, and here ends the first part of the series. To be continued......

By setting this series we can share such a lovely part of Somerset with others doing the hobby that we love. The Staple Fitzpaine Herepath Trail consists of A circular trail 22km (13.7 miles) long passing through the Forestry Commission woodlands around Staple Hill, Castle Neroche, Bickenhall, Thurlbear and Wych Lodge, and the surrounding countryside. The GEOCACHES are currently set along 3.6 miles of the Herepath trail. It will take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to get all 6 geocaches and get back to the car park if starting from staple hill car park. The trail can be joined at any part but for this series we would recommend starting from staple hill car park. The trail is made up of bridleways that take you through a wide variety of landscapes including; Gravelled forest roads, stone tracks, grass fields and some steep slopes. From #3 to #4 the path must be followed, there is a bit of a walk between these two caches but if following the path and signs for Herepath trail the geocaches will be found. During certain times of the year the trail can become very muddy and therefore appropriate footwear is needed. Along the trail there is lots of space and things for young geocachers to discover. People visiting should be aware that this area is known to be home to long horn cattle but these are only sometimes seen. But please follow the signs and information given along the trail carefully. We are not fans of cattle or cows ourselves but it has never been an issue for us along this trail. Signs are marked for the Herepath trail throughout and also have a (Leaf) symbol to follow as there are other trails within this area. NOTE: that the entrance to Staple Hill car park has a height restriction barrier of 2.1m. The car park can be accessed easily for those travelling on the B3170 or the A303. Permission gained from Forestry Commission and Crown Estate About the Cache: you are looking for a micro cache, depending on the time of year it may need more of a feel around rather than seeing it.
