2.5 miles WNW of Pittsfield,Vt. up the Lower (or Upper) Michigan Brook Roads to the site of an Old Iron Mine in the Mountains!
Cache is an Ammo Can with following items to start you off: Fish Fillet knife,2 neat fishing lures,pkg. of environmentally safe sinkers,"Secret Love" cassette tape, Nite Lite Golf ball, Solid Brass Key ring,A.Bocelli CD,Louis L'Amour Audio book Cassette,Money Belt/Holster, and the "USA BUG" Hitchiking with the Old Salt.
Start from Rte.100 on the West side of Pittsfield, (Lower Michigan Brook Rd.) by the "Country Butcher" store, and Picarello Pizza sign. It's 2.5 miles up the Brook to the Mine. You can park at the Crossover Road, (1.2 miles)and the main rd. ends just beyond at a house on the left. 4 Wheel Drive only from here. You can 4 wheel it about another 1.3 miles where you can't go any further. It's only a short hike from here (about .36 mi.) The whole road up is really neat, beautiful brook, and nice country.
The Mine was Operational in 1877/78, and there was even a small village named "Peartville" (after the last Mine Owner) with about 150 workers there at one Point. Pittsfield Historical society & Mr. Gene Martin have more Info. (Bring a Flashlight to see the Mine!)
