Geocache Description:

decoration day, at the Western Reserve National Cemetery (WRNC) 2016

this is a meet and greet event. the log will be available to sign at the posted coords, if you want to sign a log, beginning at 8 a.m. this event will end a little before 10 a.m. at that time, if you desire, you may join me along with other volunteers from the community in the placing of flags on the graves of veterans interred here.

come out and help me reclaim the meaning of Memorial Day. while under the direction of cemetery personnel I will participle in the grave decorating ceremony. during which time a memorial flag will be placed at each grave site. ceremony begins, with some speakers, at 10 a.m. and shortly after that the flags will be placed on each grave site. this is an annual event, and many volunteers from the community participate, if you wish you may also join in.
this is my third year hosting an event here, and due to all the positive feedback I've got about past events here, I will indeed host another event here this year. this event is a meet and greet type of event. posted coords will take you to my location, not to far from the main flag pole. there are some one way  roads at the entrance, so be sure to follow the signs and not go the wrong way on a one way street. the log book will be available to sign beginning at 8 a.m. if you wish to sign it. shortly after that many other volunteers will begin to arrive, and parking near my location will get harder to do. during the event you can catch up with friends, and maybe meet some new people until about 9:30 a.m.

shortly before the ceremony begins at 10 a.m. all of the volunteers will gather around the main flag pole, near that time I as well as any other cachers who wish to join in the ceremony will head there as well. I will once again leave the log to sign, if desired, at the event coords for anybody who may arrive late. if that is the case, and you wish to join in the grave decorating ceremony please feel free to join the other volunteers at the main flag pole. after the speakers have finished their remarks I, along with other volunteers from the community, will go out and place a flag at each veterans grave. once again, if you wish to join me in that activity you may do so. weather should not be a consideration, so be sure to dress appropriately. I have found that even in what I thought of as moist ground it could be very difficult to secure a wooden stick flag firmly in place. in addition to appropriate dress I think a screwdriver to make a pilot hole to place the flag in would be helpful as well.

to often Memorial Day is just a Monday off of work, a three day weekend, and the start of summer. it is actually a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. this year it is special as Memorial Day falls on "traditional" Memorial Day, which is May 30th, not the congressionally ordered last Monday in May. please join me, and for a couple hours remember the true meaning of the day. there will also be a full program of activities here at the cemetery. I will provide further information about those when it becomes available in the form of an announcement here for those interested to see what else is going on.
