Although the geocaching.com maps have not yet made note of it, the former Center St. was renamed Bishop Nazery Way on September 1, 2012. Bishop Willis Nazery was the first pastor of the nearby Bethel A.M.E. Church, and a hero of the Underground Railroad.
Nazery was born a slave in Virginia in 1803, but in his lifetime he served as pastor here in 1845, was ordained as a Bishop in New York in 1852 and helped found the British Methodist Episcopal Church to serve Underground Railroad refugees who settled in the area.
You will see that parking is a-plenty here, although this lot is sometimes used to dump the town's snow. When said snow is covered in black yuck, it kind of looks like the namesake of the nearby Coal Ave.
