Opposite the hill with the many unique Halfmens trees, a cache lays awaiting. Although this cache lies right next to the road which takes one into the Richtersveld from the border post, towards Eksteensfontein, the road is in a terrible condition and even thumps 4x4's at the moment.
Again, a tradition club cache of 4x4 toy vehicle, sticker, log book and pencil has been placed on the side of the road, behind a rock outcrop, under a pile of rocks.
Although it is by the road side and easily accessible, the road condition is terrible. My Land Cruisers' one half of the front after market bull bar / bumper replacement sheared its fixing points and came off!!!!!
Opposite the cache, a very unique hill / koppie exists with about 12 to 13 of the unique Halfmens tress growing on it. It is worth a scramble - an overweight, unfit late 39 year old did it (me!). These trees are very difficult to find in the Richtersveld, and on previous 4x4 excursions we have spotted a lone 1 or 2. Why then this site not visited. The sheer position of this site, sees one normally just driving past it without even noticing them as they are high up on the hill, and dependant on your 'viewing' capability, you will not easily spot them.
Enjoy the cache and the unique experience of the Richtersveld - it os one of our main annual holiday stopovers (Peace of Paradise camp site).
Make sure you visit the Petroglyphs about 500m from the Peace of Paradise camp site (on the Border Post Side) as well as on the large rock boulders about 1-2km's further along the road.

- Halfmens TreesA good example of these trees which are very scarce and found on the slopes of a very few mountains in the Richtersveld. This was a lovely find with more than 10 trees in this location. A bit of a steep climb, but the view was stunning.
