Geocache Description:

This series has ended and prizes are no longer available, however, the park has adopted this cache so it is still out and waiting to be found! Happy Hunting!

This cache is part of the Virginia State Parks 80th Anniversary Adventure. Each state park has a unique cache for this series.

This cache is in a clear lock-n-lock container and will contain a logbook, pencil and unique collector's card. There are small prizes for finding 5, 10, 20, and ALL of the caches. Most parks require a small parking fee while geocaching. For more information go to: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/parkfees.shtml

This cache is located a short distance from the main parking lot and accessible to most visitors. The cache box is just off our Boston Mill Road Trail and overlooks beautiful farmland. To access the cache box visitors will walk to the Backcounty Trailhead kiosks. Take the Corporal Morgan Trail and turn right onto Boston Mill Road. The cache box is located very close to the Boston Mill Road trail marker. Corporal Morgan is a mowed trail with a very slight incline. The distance from the main lot to the cache box is less than half a mile.

The history of farming at Sky Meadows spans over 300 years. The bucolic view provides an escape from city life and captures the essence of farm country. The story behind the rolling hills is as inspiring as the view. In the 1730’s, settlers made their way over gaps in the mountains to settle in the Crooked Run Valley. Transforming forests into farmlands, trees into homes and rocky fields into orchards filled the days of these early settlers.  The land encompassing this view was sold to developers in the 1960’s. Mr. Paul Mellon, a Virginian and philanthropist, intervened and purchased the land that is now Sky Meadows State Park.
