Geocache Description:

Mulvane Micro Series #12 - Monkey Business

Well the long awaited next piece of the MMS has arrived! And since this number is divisible by three that means its a puzzle!!!! Ive known that this would be MMS 12 for a long time now (2 years at time of publishing), I just havnt been able to find anywhere to put it. Some of you fellow cachers may remember a devious cache like this. This cache IS a micro.... The puzzle to get the cache is not though! But the cache itself is. Anyway, this is called a Monkey Lock. A good friend of mine had one in town and I found it smashed open and reported it to him when i first started geocaching. This particular cache has taken me many tries to beat it and get the cache out. Ive heard of people taking anywhere from 5 minutes to complete it to hours and multiple attempts to beat it. This is the Monkey Lock. I have had it built for a while and I really enjoyed doing it whenever it was still in my possession. The geocache is chained to a tree, but you can unchain it to maneuver it a little better. To unchain it just cut the ziptie holding the chain together. The chain is temporarily ziptied together for only a few days so i can get a padlock on in.  To get this cache you will have to crack my Monkey Lock (Please not literally crack it or break it!). It should be as easy as getting the #1 off of #2 (shown below) and your done just like that. Or so you thought. To access #2 you must remove the padlock. I have to key at GZ so you can unlock it...... but it is inside the lock itself.  The cache is located in #2 along with the key to get the padlock off of #4 so it can slide off and #1 comes off revealing the cache. As you see there is a center divider seperating #2 from #3. Inside #3 is a spout that you will have to shake, wiggle and tilt to get the key out. I have  removed some of the key that way in can fit inside #6,#7, #8, #9, #10, and finally out #11!! Doesnt sound to hard right? To better clarify what i just said see the pictures below!

What I did to the key

The Spout

Evil? Nah. So to get it out you have to start at #2 and twist the puzzle, using sound, to guide the portion of the key through the handle, into #3, and out the spout. Then just use needle nose pliers to twist the key to get the pad lock off. Once the padlock is off its simple. Pull the stick out, pop off the cap and grab the cache which is a small spider tube! YAY everyones happy!! Here is a map on what i just said.

How to get the key out

There isnt really parking so make sure you have someone with you to keep an eye on the vehicle you bring out here. Its an isolated area for the most part. There are some nearby residents So please DO NOT BOTHER THEM!! They do not even know the cache is here. The cache is not on private property. You may have to go on a little hike to get to the cache but once you see it you will know why I had to place it way out here. Have Fun!!! Bring your own Writing equipment. PLEASE DO NOT SMASH THE LOCK!!!  Contact me if there are any problems!!
