The Tipple Tower would have sat above a dropped shaft that led down into a mine. The sheeve/wheel was used to lower men into the mines or to lift coal loads out of them. When the coal was brought up out of the mine it was raised to a certain point on the Tipple Tower above ground level. Then it was "tipped" from the cage basket onto a conveyor and was separated out into bins tagged by each miner for weighing.
Easy park and grab. Container size is 1" x 2". Gained permission from the Glen Carbon Heritage Museum.
