Geocache Description:

THE CACHE

Patience is the key for this cache. No strong force required please. It is an ability task, so try not to do it by the force, because otherwise you will end up perforating the container. It is a bit off the track but please watch out for muggles.

You will find something funny on the GZ zone, and if you have completed more caches from the AFWT series, you may be familiar with the shape of the cache.
To retrieve the logbook, you will have to use two tools that you will need to provide (such as lolly sticks, or inside of pens). You will soon figure out how to pull the container to the top, so slowly slowly do your duty to be able to get a smiley face here.

HAPPY HUNTING!! And please leave everything as camouflaged as possible.

HISTORY OF THE PLACE

Fort Street, originally Fore Street, led along the original shoreline (now reclaimed all the way to Quay Street). There were steps up the hill to the Britomart Barracks. The Maori name for this area is Te One Panea, ‘beach of the heads in line’. It is said the heads of slain enemies were stuck on posts from one end to the other of the foreshore.

Whith the development of Auckland CBD the lack of office space has leaded to a funny concept: The Façadism, that refers to the practice where only the facade of a building is preserved (for any reason) with new buildings erected behind or around it.

HISTORY OF WHEAT GROWING/MILLING New Zealand, as the Polynesians discovered when they settled over a 1000 years ago, had no “native wheat”, or any other wild grasses that could be cultivated for grain and therefore it was diffi cult to maintain a constant food source over winter. In the early 1800s, Ruatara, chief of the Ngapuhi people, was among the first to plant wheat as a crop in New Zealand.

Other examples of facadism in town:

The Old Post in the old Jean Batten Building, with the new Deloitte building on top, from ShortLane

Old Grand Hotel in Princess street with the Ex-Fonterra Building on top.
