Geocache Description:

Welcome to the SPACE COAST GEO CHALLENGE!

This geocache is part of the Space Coast Geo Challenge. Anyone can claim this cache, but to be eligible for a Space Coast Geo Challenge geocoin, please follow the instructions at the bottom of this page.

About this geocache:

Daylight caching only.

Green Gables represents the last, best reminder of modern Melbourne’s early families. Built as a home for William T. Wells and his family, Green Gables is still owned by members of the family and is largely unchanged. The Wells home is at the north end of Riverview Drive, the Carlton Hotel was at the south end. In between Green Gables and the Carlton, early residents arriving to enjoy Florida winters built their summer cottages. Although the Carlton did not survive long into the 20th century, Green Gables remained a center of social life for many years. There are still a number of people who remember formal teas hosted by the Wells family.

Permission for this geocache placement coordinated with the City of Melbourne, Office of Community Development, and Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc.
