The old jailhouse was built around 1878. It remained in use until 1976. Being the jailer was a full time job back then. The jailer and their family lived at the jailhouse.
My Grandmother was the 2nd woman jailer in SC. During the time she was jailer, she had a sign that was hung up at the front of the jail shaped like a watermelon. On the front it said Welcome and as anyone was leaving it said "ya'll come back". She also had a peacock that was known as the Jailbird that stayed on the grounds.
You are looking for a camo tupperwear container. It will be located on the front of the jailhouse. Please do not approach the side of the building with the basement door (per the historical society).
