Bis 1911 gehörte dieses Areal zum Exerzier- und Paradeplatz der Schmelz. Danach wurde ein Teil für Bebauung freigegeben, und ist heute unter dem Nibelungenviertel bekannt, weil die Straßen hier mehrheitlich nach Figuren aus dem Nibelungenlied benannt wurden. Es wurden hier großbürgerliche Mietshäuser errichtet, deren Stil die Spätphase der Wiener Secession widerspiegelt. Hier hätte eigentlich auch ein Kaiser-Franz-Joseph Stadtmuseum nach Plänen von Otto Wagner entstehen sollen.
Ein aufstrebender ("up-and-coming") Bezirksteil, wo kleine Cafés, Pop-Up Stores, FoodCoops und CityBike Stationen in den letzten Jahren immer mehr geworden sind und der Anteil an jungen Leuten steigt, nicht zuletzt wegen der "noch" günstigen Mietpreise und der Nähe zu sowohl der Innenstadt, als auch ins Grüne und zur Schmelz.
Tipp: Der Geocache befindet sich nicht unweit eines kleinen netten Buchladens. Wenn du Zeit hast, er ist einen Besuch wert!

This Cache is dedicated to the up-and-coming 15th district of Vienna!
Up to 1911 this area was part of the drill and parade-ground of the Schmelz. Afterwards it was released for house construction. Nowadays it is known as the "Nibelungenviertel", because the majority of the streets are named after characters of the Song of the Nibelungs. The upper-class tenements around here reflect the late phase of the Vienna Secession. It was also planned to build a Kaiser-Franz-Joseph municipial museum under the plans of Otto Wagner.
A up-and-coming part of the 15th district, where little caféhouses, pop-up stores, CityBike stations and FoodCoops are becoming more and more in the last years. Cause of the relative low rents the percentage of young people living here is getting higher, not only because of the vicinity of the city centre but also because of close green spots like the Schmelz.
Tip: The Geocache is close to a small and very friendly book store, which is worth visiting.
