Geocache Description:

*** WE ARE CURRENTLY OUT OF COINS***

The present church building was completed in 1792 in a New England Style, since the British destroyed the original during the Revolutionary War. During the Civil War, General Judson Kilpatrick occupied Midway and Sunbury for six weeks and destroyed the neighboring plantations, crops and railroad. The church was used as a slaughterhouse and the churchyard as a corral. After this, the church was abandoned and services were no longer held. The church has never been modernized.

From its founding, the church was a place of worship for both black and white families. It includes upper galleries where black members sat during services. The church is preserved and is part of the Midway Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Midway Museum, Church and Cemetery can be visited Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm.

The Cache

This cache is VERY EASY to find. Your challenge will be to figure out how to open the cache. No tools of any sort will be required. No screwdrivers, batteries, flashlights, crowbars, chainsaws, explosives, etc. NOTHING that the cache doesn't give you is required. When you figure out the solution, you will notice it only takes a very light touch to find the cache container inside. You should NOT force anything. No tools or forcing in any way is needed; this will ensure others can keep enjoying the cache for a very long time to come. It might take you seconds to open it or you might be there a while, good luck.

The key (Liberty Bell) required to solve this cache is provided. Pull it out carefully; please pull straight down to prevent damaging the attached chain. I suggest pulling out a couple feet. It is on a retractable reel. Please return it where you found it when you are finished. IF the "key" is missing, please leave me a log note. You will not be able to open this cache without the "key".

Hint: How do I find the combination to open this cache? There are multiple dates located on the cache. All of the dates represent significant events in local history and were taken from the many nearby historic markers. You must determine which dates will grant entry into the cache!

The Liberty Bell is the Key. Ask yourself lots of questions about the key. Some examples - What can I do with this key, what are the PROPERTIES of this key, what kind of key is this, what is this "key" made out of, how can I use this key to find that combination??? Keep asking, yourself questions! Remember, the key to this cache is the key (Liberty Bell).

Once you have figured out the combination the lock is a "push pull" type.

* Please be respectful of this property. This cache is located outside of the establishment. Please pull off of the main road into the parking lot to retrieve this cache. Once you have located the cache, PLEASE return the stamp and ink pad back in the cache. As with any other cache please hide back as found. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE CACHE FROM LOCATION
Geocache placed and hidden with permission.
