This section of Old Snake Hill Road has never been paved, and has not been maintained in generations. However in April 1775 it reportedly was used by Connecticut Militia as they marched to Lexington, Mass to support the Minuteman who just fired the first shots of the American Revolution and now were laying siege to the British troops encamped in Boston. On the Rhode Island side, pavement ends about 1/2 mile in from Route 94. You can continue a little further, pull off the road, park, and walk the towards the cache. The closer you drive to the cache, the worse the road condition becomes. Be sure to check out the massive beaver dam and the granite slab bridge over Shady Oak Brook. Before the beaver dam flooded the area, Mowry Meadow was a shallow but submerged grassy area, also called a Fen.
