If you knew us, you would probably know that when we hide a cache we don't generally hide micros or nano sized caches. Our favorite kinds of caches are usually regular or large sized caches that involve a nice walk through nature, and aren't too hard to find. For us it's mainly about the walk, the location, and those who we may be sharing the adventure with. The few that we have placed that were micros were because of special circumstances.
One of those circumstances took place last year when we were one of 12 teams that were involved in a year-long fun competition called the "Geo-Hunger Games" (GC5EW53). It was fantastic. Each month for a year we were given a new geocaching related task (or series of tasks) to perform, and one month, our task was to hide a cache that would be extremely difficult to find, and all of the teams had to use a waterproof orange matchstick container. Ugh! We do NOT like hiding hard, nasty caches, let alone micros. So to compromise a bit, we chose a spot that wasn't too nasty (it was scenic and right by a waterfall), but we did for the very first time use an orange matchstick container.
Now that the ice is broken and we've hidden an orange matchstick container, to our surprise we're doing it again. Don't worry, it's not too nasty. And when you see the location and how it is hidden we hope you'll agree it's not a typical matchstick container placement.
While we're at it, here's some pictures of matchstick containers we've found over the years in Wisconsin and beyond. Enjoy the pictures, and we hope you'll enjoy the BEAUTIFUL walk along the Ice Age Trail to the cache!
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Amanda Kutka of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager.
