Several times we wanted already visit at least the highest and farest eastern peak of the Three Sisters, but we never did it before, due to different reasons, which mainly referred to the weather…
The Three Sisters a three beautiful peaks on the north-west of the Dingle Peninsula. They are visible from a lot of even far away spots and represent significant landmarks. Charles Lindbergh took this most western part of Europe to navigate to when he reached Europe after his first solo-flight from New York to Paris over the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. Lindbergh signalled a fishing canoe with his Spirit of St. Louis to continue via Ventry and Valencia Island towards Paris.
When you reach the top and also the cache on a bright and sunny day you will have spectacular views around the north-western part of Dingle. You have a lovely view on Smerwick Harbour and the Brandon Rocks. You also have a view even down to Dunmore Head in the very west.
Towards the north, you only have the lovely Atlantic Ocean and deep and steep cliffs below you. Take care of every step you make on the ridge, as northwards and eastwards, and also partly to the west the ridge is very sharp and goes directly down into the ocean or on the rocks and cliffs below.
Take your time for a rest, bring your binoculars with you and enjoy the views, the wind and the sun.
There are several possibilities for parking the car, from the recommended parking it is about 1 km until you reach a gate to pass, you will see a lot of lovely sheep all over the fields on the left and on the right, then you can try to find sheep trails, but sometimes they are even wetter than the cross-country decision. There is also a path at the cliffline, which is also not easy to find the entrance to…
The final 300 m are extremely steep but also extremely beautiful as the views are getting more and more spectacular with every step you make… enjoy it!!! The Cache is a small lock-lock-box including a Logbook and pencil. As the GPS signal was not too exact, we added some spoiler pics to make it easier for other cachers, use the time up there for the views and the joy of life and not for searching for plastic containers J.
