Geocache Description:

The City of Dauphin has a very diverse religious background, evident by the number and variety of churches in and around the city. In your cache quest you will be brought to some of these landmarks, some have historical plaques, some have their own websites, a few I will try to bring some enlightenment to, have fun learning about Dauphin’s heritage. (Unfortunate due to nearness of adjacent caches, I am unable to bring you to all Dauphin churches.)

Welcome to Parkside Gospel Church’s geocache quest. Cache is not at the posted co-ordinates. Since you’ve made the effort to find this countryside church, here is some of it’s history: The church traces its roots back to 1898 when a house church moved its congregation into the local rural Banks Schoolhouse. Wanting their own identity and being adjacent to Riding Mountain National Park the church became known as Parkside Church. It wasn’t until 1946 that a truly ordained minister took over services and a regular Gospel ministry was started. On September 28, 1953, the church was organized into an inter-denominational independent church and in 1957, an invitation to join the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada was accepted and the name became Parkside Gospel Church. In 1958, a former Dauphin dance hall had a “moving experience” and was converted into the church that stands today. In 1967 there was an adjacent manse house built as the pastor’s residence however most pastors have lived in the adjoining area or Dauphin with the manse used to house families and people in need. With the congregation growing and the demands for other ministries developing, in the early 1990s construction started on an activity building and it was dedicated in 1992. The average attendance for a church service today is around 100 people consisting of a diversity of individuals and families from both the rural and urban areas of the Parkland. The church supports ministries such as Dauphin Bible Camp, the Awana kid’s club, the Dauphin Community Youth Ministry, Eagle’s Wings Village Children’s Orphanage and various missionaries throughout the world. (Cache placed with the permission of the church.) You will find the co-ordinates for this cache hidden in the text of the bible (NIV version used). Using the books of the bible, the chapter and the verse you will find numbers that correspond to the co-ordinates:
