Geocache Description:

Please note that the park is closed from 11pm-6am.

This 65.39 acre parcel of land was formerly owned by Carl Englehart and was the location of his farm.

Carle Englehart was born in 1896 and passed away in 1974. He is interred in the nearby Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery.

In 1999, Earl Plato began the proceedings for the stewardship of this property to be given to the Bert Miller Nature Club.
After insurance issues were finalized, the Town of Fort Erie entered into a stewardship agreement with the Bert Miller Nature Club, and on December 6th, 2001, everything was completed.

The Shagbark Nature Park, as it is now known, is home to many native species of flora, as well as, many naturalized or cultivars species. This wide diversity of plants have attracted an equally diverse variety of fauna including Red-tailed Hawks, the Eastern Bluebird, Chimney Swifts and others. But be warned, my arch nemesis is also present in this wooded area, the nefarious Poison Ivy.

Have fun and happy caching!
