This cache takes you to the Decorah Community Prairie. Wide, fairly level, 6 foot mowed grass trails take you through the Prairie and alongside the Upper Iowa River. Your destination is a very large isolated Burr Oak Tree. Don't take a trail to the right until after you pass the buffalo.
This Prairie is located in the Upper Iowa River floodplain as is clearly evident by the Dike you drove over to get to the parking area. While this side of the River is mostly established prairie, the other side has limestone bluffs and steep, heavily wooded hillsides above a popular bike trail. There is a Butterfly Garden near the Parking area that is wheelchair and stroller friendly. Follow the paved narrow road up and over the Dike for Parking.
