Welcome to McKinleyville Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

A second in an accidental series.

I was hunting for the perfect hiding spot for a cache and behold another Chamber of Commerce building! So I decided to roll with it and make this an unofficial sequel to Welcome to Eureka.

McKinleyville is a community made up of smaller settlements. Joe Dows settled in the general area in the 1800s hence Dows Prairie. Slightly south was a small community called Minor in the 1900s. South of Minor was Calville that was settled by the California Barrell Company. After President William McKinley was assassinated, the community of Minor changed its name to McKinleyville in his honor and that is how the town of McKinleyville was born.
