For our very first geocache hide, I picked a spot that I have walked by hundreds of times. I always stop here to look out and often see a Great Blue Heron perched across the way.
Please take care as people tend to drive fast on this stretch of road. You will want to park a bit further up and walk back to GZ.

Great Blue Heron
Ardea herodias
Size: The great blue heron can grow as large as 3.2 to 4.5 feet.
Habitat: The great blue heron is found all over North America and in Alaska and can be found in Mexico. They prefer to live on fast moving water that doesn’t freeze such as streams, creeks and rivers.
Diet: This species of bird eats mostly small fish but they also eat shrimp, crabs, rodents, small reptiles, amphibians and small birds.
Native: Native to North America.
Status: This species is currently threatened to becoming endangered.
Fun Fact: The great blue heron has a large 6 foot wingspan which is why they look huge when they fly.
